Make it Happen designs and delivers interactive, multi-media e-learning experiences and e-learning platforms for Third Sector, Voluntary and Community organisations at national, regional and local level. We also offer consultancy for a range of clients, and have been instrumental in developing national e-learning strategies for Third Sector organisations such as Volunteering England and TPAS.
TPAS – Tenant Participation Advisory Service
Funded through the Empowerment Fund we continue to work in partnership with TPAS to develop, design and deliver accredited e-learning courses for tenants and residents groups throughout England.
We designed the TPAS e-learning platform, created the course content using a range of multi-media e-learning experiences and activities, and accredited the courses with the NOCN. TPAS face-to-face trainers are trained and supported by us to deliver the online courses. Make it Happen were recommended to TPAS by the National Community Resource Centre. Online courses we have created for TPAS include:

- Involving Everyone (equality and diversity)
- Building online Communities
Volunteering England
We first began designing online toolkits and other interactive web content for Volunteering England (VE) in 2006 and we have an excellent working relationship that continues to the present day. The initial work led to developing and designing VE’s e-learning platform, its courses and interactive content.
One of our biggest challenges was designing the 60 hour ‘Excellence in Volunteer Management’ (EVM) qualification, enabling the thirty eight EVM licensed training providers to deliver the qualification face-to-face, blended, or online via the e-learning platform. EVM is now owned and delivered by Volunteer Centre Warrington (VCW) and Make it Happen have been key players EVM’s online transition from Volunteering England to VCW. Projects for Volunteering England include:
- Excellence in Volunteer Management (EVM), accredited by the ILM at Level 3
- Train the trainer: training UK-wide EVM licensed training providers to deliver e-learning
- Learning Loops: online action learning sets for England-wide managers of Volunteers, accredited by the NOCN and ILM at Level 3
- Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV), accredited by the ILM at Level 3
Guide Dogs UK
In partnership with Volunteering England, we designed and produced a highly interactive e-learning course for all Guide Dogs UK staff who work with volunteers. Made available on the Guide Dogs intranet, and launched in January 2011, the feedback from Guide Dogs staff has been excellent.
“Thanks for your extremely hard work on this (and your colleagues), we all appreciate it and this is a fantastic product.” (Guide Dogs UK).
Volunteer Centre Warrington
We have had an excellent working relationship with Volunteer Centre Warrington (VCW) since 2006 that continues to the present day. We set up and designed their e-learning platform and were key players in the transition of the 60 hour ‘Excellence in Volunteer Management’ qualification accredited by the ILM from Volunteering England to VCW. We also trained VCW trainers to deliver online training and administer the site.
VCW have a great reputation for training delivery in England and have always been forward thinking and creative, and have been ‘e-learning champions. In fact, VCW conducted a England-wide survey to find out the needs of volunteer managers, the results of which led to the development of EVM. Throughout 2010-11 Make it Happen continue to support VCW’s online delivery of EVM across England.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Dane and Christine of Make it Happen through several different projects over the last few years and have always found their approach to be open and friendly, enabling you to gain the most from their skills and expertise. The quality of the work produced has been of a high standard and the design and development of our new Moodle e-learning platform is accessible and easy to use both for the administrators and the learners.” (Training Manager: Volunteer Centre Warrington)
British Orienteering
Recommended by runningsports, we were approached by British Orienteering to design an e-learning course based on the role of the Volunteer Coordinator at sports clubs that was orienteering specific. The original course was successfully launched in 2010.
We are now designing and creating a blended version of the UKCC Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering. This course currently runs over 3.5 days and is completely face-to-face. In the future, 1.5 of those days will be delivered online by British Orienteering trainers followed by two face-to-face assessment days. The blended course will save British Orienteering and prospective coaches £1000’s, whilst maintaining the robustness and quality of the content and delivery.

- The role of the Volunteer Coordinator, awarding body 1st4Sport at level 2

Forster Community College
Based in the centre of Bradford this multi-cultural community college approached us wanting to deliver an ambitious programme of online courses. The first thing we did was to help them to develop an e-learning strategy. We then designed their e-learning platform, trained their trainers to deliver e-learning, and trained other FCC staff on how to administer the VLE. The site has mushroomed over the past two years with new courses being added and 100’s of registered learners.
West Yorkshire Learning Consortium
We designed an online Introduction to Business Planning for the West Yorkshire Learning Consortium’s region-wide e-vision project.
